Zips, Buttons & More - Learn the basics
Scribble & Sew are proud to offer this unique 4 hour free-motion embroidery workshop at our studio in Redfern. This technique will show you how to draw with the sewing machine.
We believe in an approach that gives students positive, constructive ways to learn. Our class is limited to 3 students, ensuring you will have the right balance of personal attention throughout.
Also known as free-machine or free-motion embroidery, this technique is used to build embroidery landscapes, textures and drawings, all from stitch or a mix of free-machine and applique. Your hands will move the material around, creating shapes and trapping material. We will use this technique to create an abstract piece of art that you can hang on your wall or give as a gift.
Sophie will begin by showing you how the process works and share some useful tips on how to perfect the technique. Once you've had a practice run on some scrap material, you will be given your "blank canvas" to sew on. Once you are finished with your artwork, we will turn it into a wall hanging.
Students require previous sewing experience and understand how to set up a sewing machine. If you have no previous experience, please attend our "Sewing Masterclass for Beginners" workshop first.

"I attended a workshop in September at Scribble & Sew's sewing studio. I loved the artistic feel of the venue. Sophie's style of teaching is calm, informative and patient. I love my cushion and I cant wait to make more. Thank you Sophie"
- Jennifer Hewett
"I had no previous knowledge of sewing before this class. Sophie eased us into the session and allowed us to practice until we all felt comfortable to start on our cushions. My favourite part of the class was using the cutting tool - it was so cool."
- Felicity McArthur
